In the gardening world, October is often referred to as the “Second Spring.” This month’s warm soil and cool temperatures are perfect for plants to establish their roots.  So, now is the time to plant shrubs, trees, and evergreens to give them plenty of time to establish their roots before the upcoming winter.

Also, there is still time to plant Spring-flowering bulbs like tulips and daffodils if you did not plant them last month. The earlier they are planted, the better the chances that they will develop substantial root systems before soil temperatures get too low.

We at Native Design Landscaping prefer native plants.  There are hundreds of varieties native to our area of the country that attract and establish native bird habitats and preserve our environment, that are as beautiful as they are eco-friendly.  And if you are unsure of what to plant, there are a number of native plant nurseries in our area that can help you choose.  You can easily find them online.

Of course, if you do not have the time or lack a green thumb, give us a call.  To learn more about the services Native Designs Landscaping can provide, visit nativedesignslandscaping.com or contact Tom Wolfgang, certified horticulturist, at 610.584.2989.
